There are few things more miserable than a hot house in the summer. If your air conditioning stops working, you’re probably eager to rectify the situation; however, scheduling and paying for repairs can be both expensive and time-consuming.

This is where a home warranty company steps in. By committing to a home warranty plan ahead of time, you can rest easy knowing your home’s most important appliances and systems are covered.

One of the best-rated home warranty providers is Liberty Home Guard (LHG.) In this article, we’ll explore the different plans available through this provider and share consumer reviews that provide valuable insight into what LHG has to offer.

Liberty Home Guard Overview

LHG is a relatively new company started in 2019, but it has quickly become a leader in its industry, receiving top ratings from both the Better Business Bureau and Consumer Affairs due to its affordable plans, modern claim portal and reliable customer service.

Offering a range of home warranty coverage, LHG has three different home warranty plans and additional optional add-ons to customize your plan to fit your home.

Plans

As mentioned, LHG offers several home warranty plans with various levels of coverage, ranging from basic to comprehensive. These plans include:

  • Appliance Guard: This plan covers primary kitchen and general home appliances including clothes washers and dryers, refrigerators, built-in microwave ovens, dishwashers, garbage disposals, ranges, ovens and cooktops, ceiling and exhaust fans and garage door openers.

  • Systems Guard: This plan covers primary home systems including air conditioning, heating, ductwork, plumbing, electrical and water heaters.

  • Total Home Guard: The most comprehensive of LHG’s coverage, this plan is the combination of the Appliance Guard and Systems Guard plans and covers both home appliances and systems.

Optional Add-Ons

LHG’s home protection plans were designed to cover the appliances and systems that most homeowners need protected. But because everyone’s needs are different, there are also optional add-ons that you can choose to include in your plan if you need special coverage.

When choosing a home warranty plan, it’s important to consider your needs as well as your monthly budget to set your home up for success. The exact home warranty cost through LHG will depend on the plan and optional add-ons you choose as well as your home’s location. Quotes can be requested on the LHG website, but the following are estimates based on a home in Raleigh, North Carolina.

$39.99 per month

System Guard

$49.99 per month

It’s important to note that in addition to the cost of a monthly premium, LHG customers are required to pay a service fee of $60 to the contractor at the time of repairs.

Top Liberty Home Guard Reviews

As you search for a comprehensive home warranty plan, one of the best places to look is in customer reviews. These reviews provide valuable insight into the experience real people have had with the company – from choosing a plan, to filing a claim and receiving service. With this in mind, let’s take a look at recent customer reviews from the following sites.

Better Business Bureau (BBB)

LHG is a Better Business Bureau (BBB) -accredited business with an A+ rating. Customers have given the company a rating of 4.63/5 stars and complimented LHG on the simple sign-up process as well as the speed and quality of service. There are 277 reported complaints closed in the last 3 years, with 174 closing in the last 12 months. However, most complaints on the site received a response from the company within a few days, and in some cases the complaint was resolved to the customer’s satisfaction.

In August 2021, one customer compared LHG’s hands-on customer service approach with his former home warranty provider, stating, “Our representative is extremely knowledgeable and professional. It took him just minutes to provide us with an inexpensive and total home warranty solution. What I like thus far about Liberty Home Guard is that our representative provided us with his direct line to answer any questions and/or to initiate claims, when necessary. For this reason alone it's worth the price – my former warranty company provided no direct access to its representatives, and claims were initiated 'online only' – if you happened to need assistance, you could wait on hold for hours.”

Consumer Affairs

LHG also has a 4/5-star rating on Consumer Affairs, and is the site’s top pick for flexible coverage. Consumer Affairs notes that this provider is particularly appealing to first-time home buyers, as its plans are straightforward, affordable and 24/7 customer service is available.

In June 2021, one customer commented on the ease of filing a claim with LHG, explaining, “My latest issue with my air conditioning was immediately escalated, which I appreciated. The customer service rep told me that prioritization of AC claims in the summer is by design in their system. He told me that the founders are former military and intentionally designed the system to intelligently triage claims, especially when volume picks up. And I have to say that Liberty Home Guard’s approach really does seem methodologically rigorous based on my experience. It’s understandable to wait a couple weeks for a new garbage disposal but doing without an AC in the heat is just untenable.”

What We Like About Liberty Home Guard

From affordability to top-notch customer service, there are a number of advantages to choosing LHG as your home warranty provider.

Modern Customer Claim Portal

LHG offers a convenient customer portal, making the process of submitting a claim simple. And because this is a relatively new company, the technology it uses is both modern and intuitive.

Top Rated

LHG has the only A+ rating among home warranty companies from the Better Business Bureau. This is a reflection of the company’s goal to offer affordable, easy-to-understand coverage options, as well as their commitment to high quality customer service.

Affordability

In addition to the overall affordability of their plans, LHG also offers deals and benefits for new customers – including a sign-on deal for $200 off, two months free, free roof coverage and potentially waiving copays, depending on the situation.

In August 2021, a customer gave LHG a 5-star rating on BBB, commenting, “It was easy to set up an account with LHG. The salesperson was very helpful and gave me all the details about their coverage and options to make payments along with some free months:) That made it easier for me to sign up for a longer period of time.”

24/7 Service Calls

LHG also offers 24/7 service calls, making the repair process as quick and easy for customers as possible.

In August 2021, a customer gave LHG a 5-star rating on BBB for the ease of the process, explaining, “Liberty is clearly the best home warranty company I have ever dealt with. I’ve had a home warranty for 30 years. This year I tried Liberty. Not only did they resolve my problem quickly, and hassle-free, they called me to ensure I was satisfied with the repair.”

No Commitment

One of the most unique parts of LHG’s home warranty plans is that they don’t require any sort of formal commitment. Plans can be cancelled at any time, which can’t be said of many other plans on the market. This is a testament to LHG’s confidence in the service they provide.

If you cancel your plan within 30 days of the effective start date, you will receive a full refund minus the cancellation fee of $50. If you cancel after this point, you will receive a prorated refund for the remaining length of your coverage minus the $50 cancellation fee.

Liberty Home Guard Home Warranty FAQs

Is Liberty Home Guard available nationwide?

Liberty Home Guard is available in 45 states, not including California, Illinois, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming or the upper peninsula of Michigan.

Does Liberty Home Guard have any coverage limits?

Like its competitors, LHG has coverage limits, meaning the appliances and systems in your home are only covered up to a certain amount. This coverage limit is $1,600 of all covered items, with the exception of the plumbing system, electrical system, pool and spa equipment, well pump and sump pump – all of which are capped at $250 for the first 90 days of coverage and $500 after the first 90 days.

Can I use my own contractor for repairs?

In most cases, LHG customers are unable to choose their own contractor – but this policy is actually in place to ensure a positive experience. LHG is able to save customers money by choosing an LHG Certified Professional for repairs. These contractors are all licensed and come with a 60-day workmanship guarantee.

The Bottom Line

As one of the top-rated home warranty companies, Liberty Home Guard provides valuable peace of mind for homeowners – so you’re not alone when something in your home goes awry. But the best way to protect your home is to prepare ahead of time. Consider the appliances and systems you rely on and choose a home warranty plan that fits your needs.

To better determine which home warranty provider is best for you, we recommend comparing LHG with other top home warranty companies to find a plan that makes the most sense for your home.
